Specifying a device for only a single drive for periodic report
(too old to reply)

I have a small server that has teo disk drives. One is the internal PATA
(AHCI) drive. The other is a USB drive. I would like to enable S.M.A.R.T.
checking on both, but the USB device (-d) needs to be included in the
command (i.e. "-d sat").

I have not been able to figure out how to set up periodic(8) to work with a
device option for one drive but not the other.

Is this possible without a kludge of some sort or mods to the
periodic/smart script?

Are your sure that you really need that? I've never needed it to make
smartctl work with the drive in my USB dock.
